Belmont Vineyard lies about 50 miles north of the California border in the Bear Creek AVA. The warmer climate this far south helps to control the acidity that Petite Sirah is known for but the cool nights of Southern Oregon ensures that the fruit stays on the vines longer allowing flavors to develop nicely. The well drained sandy loam soils also contribute to the complexity.

“I wanted to make a Petite Sirah in the style of a “Vin de Soif”. To this end we picked earlier than would be expected and decided to ferment 50% of the fruit with carbonic maceration. The other half of the fruit was fermented whole cluster and all vessels were pressed after ten days.”
